Washed Up Emo Radio Rises Again

I've been in love with radio since I first tuned in to a college radio station left of the dial growing up. I found out quickly that you could tune in stations from far away places late at night. In college, I had two radio shows for almost four years focusing on hardcore, emo, punk, and metal. It was a dream to get records, tell friends about new music, and see/meet them in person. That was also the time of the almighty mixtape on cassette made specifically for the road trip, which showed your prowess and knowledge that a playlist now does in seconds. That work and determination at the mixtape was the drive to get the friend to listen to the whole mixtape or someone to stay tuned in to my radio show in college. The podcast fed my addiction to sharing stories and again those perfect moments to insert a song to evoke a thought or a feeling. Then, the DJ night in NYC for 9 years fed that itch in a live setting that has since spawned its own niche. Most recently I had a show on Dash Radio and though cumbersome was that same feeling of being with someone hearing them tell you a story with some songs. Earlier this year, I started playing around with Spotify and their platform to organize voice and music. It wasn't perfect or even officially available and took way too many steps but we made headway with how it worked. Recently, the teams at Anchor and Spotify put together a way to make this a reality again. The medium is ripe for experimentation and I'm sure someone after me will figure out how to monetize it. For now, I look forward to sharing stories from the podcast and this show to further the work of those less mentioned, referenced, or forgotten all together. That was my goal back scanning the dial hearing a voice I never heard before to a band in college that needed 500 watts of power or as I recently poured over the countless requests at our DJ nights to find the best way to keep everyone happy and smiling. That continues with this radio show and the podcast. I hope you enjoy the ride and find yourself sharing and scouring your own collection for that perfect mix along with me.
