Tom Mullen
Hello, my name is Tom. I started this site in 2007 to showcase and talk about the mid 90s/early 2000 emo and post-hardcore scene that was quickly becoming a mockery in the mid 2000s. It's been a labor of love to say the least. As the site and scene have evolved, it’s become more of an archive and history/curatorial place for emo as a whole, regardless of your preference of the waves. The site has expanded in many forms with a DJ nigh in NYC starting in February of 2011 and later that year, in October, I started a podcast interviewing the folks from this scene for an in depth look at music from this era. In 2017, I self published the Anthology of Emo book series with Volume One, which quickly sold out. In the summer of 2020, I released Volume Two along with a reprint of the first volume, with sales around the world.
This genre has no one story or wave. It’s constantly evolving and never went away regardless of what the mainstream media wants you to believe for the quick click to their article. The genre has survived since the 80s and continues to be a great place for experimentation and I can’t wait to hear what’s next along with preserving and documenting the history that’s already unfolded.
